Budgetcast Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 1, 2026 · ben@purplelink.llc

Budgetcast keeps your financial data on your own devices. Purplelink LLC runs no server for it, collects none of it, and cannot read it. This page says what the app stores, what leaves your device, and where it goes. The policy for this website, including the Budgetcast waitlist and demo pages, is the Purplelink privacy policy.

What the app stores on your device

Budgetcast stores your accounts, transactions, categories and rules, budgets, goals, holdings and prices, decisions about recurring charges, settings, and the figures you enter for the tax estimate and the retirement illustration. All of it is kept in the app's local database on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Every calculation runs on your device: projections, the tax estimate, the retirement illustration and the spending comparison. The spending benchmark table comes from public Bureau of Labor Statistics survey data and is bundled inside the app, so comparing against it sends nothing anywhere.

What Purplelink collects

Nothing. Budgetcast has no account or sign-in, and it does not ask for your name or email address. It has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The only third-party code in the app is an open-source database library that runs locally and does not use the network.

iCloud sync

iCloud sync is on by default and works only when the device is signed in to iCloud. When it is on, Budgetcast copies your data to the private database of your own iCloud account so that your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account show the same data. Apple runs that service under its own terms and privacy policy. Purplelink has no access to your iCloud account or to that database.

You can turn sync off in Settings under iCloud sync. With sync off, your data stays on the device.

Bank connections

Bank connections are optional. Importing a CSV file reads the file on your device and uploads nothing.

To use SimpleFIN Bridge, you create your own account with SimpleFIN and paste a setup token into Budgetcast. The app exchanges the token with the SimpleFIN server named in it and receives an access key, which it keeps in this device's Keychain. From then on your device contacts that server directly to download balances and transactions. Purplelink is not part of that connection and receives nothing from it. What SimpleFIN collects and keeps is covered by SimpleFIN's own policy.

The app also contains an optional Teller connection for developer testing. It is switched off in the App Store version and does nothing unless a developer enables it.

Purchases and subscriptions

Budgetcast subscriptions are bought through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and manages the subscription. Purplelink does not see your card or billing details, and the app reads your subscription status from Apple on your device. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings.

Apple's aggregate reports

Apple gives developers sales and subscription reports without names. If you have allowed sharing with app developers in your device settings, Apple may also provide anonymous, aggregated crash and usage statistics. Purplelink cannot connect any of this to you.

Links

Some links in the app, such as this policy, the support page and subscription management, open in your browser. Those sites have their own policies.

Exporting and deleting your data

You can export your transactions as a CSV file from Settings. Settings also has Delete all data. It removes every account, transaction, budget, goal, connection and setting from the device, removes bank connection keys from the Keychain, and, when iCloud sync is on, removes the data from iCloud and your other devices. This cannot be undone.

Deleting the app removes the data on that device. If iCloud sync was on, the copy in your iCloud account stays until you use Delete all data or remove it in your Apple Account's iCloud storage settings.

How long we keep it

Purplelink keeps none of your Budgetcast data, so there is nothing to retain or delete on our side. Your data lives on your devices, and in your iCloud account if sync is on, until you delete it.

Children

Budgetcast is not directed to children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from anyone.

Your rights

Because Purplelink holds no personal data from Budgetcast, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California and want to ask about this policy, email ben@purplelink.llc. We do not sell or share personal information.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Budgetcast changes what it stores or sends, for example by adding a server feature, we will update this page and its effective date before that version is released, and we will update the App Privacy details in the App Store to match.
