Update

Tapefolio 1.0.1

Fixes speaker labels. The standard speaker separation had been dropping about half of the speech in long recordings. NVIDIA Nemotron 3 speaker separation, an optional download, is now used automatically when it is installed. Tapefolio.

October 9, 2026
Launch

Tapefolio 1.0

A Mac app that transcribes audio on your Mac with word timing and speaker labels, helps you replace names and other identifiers case by case, and reads photos, scans and PDFs into searchable text. Your files are not uploaded. It has a review screen with an audio player and word highlighting, exports for Word, MAXQDA, SRT and VTT, and optional speaker memory that you turn on for a project. It will mishear words and miss some identifiers, so check what it produces. Free for 7 days, then $29.99 once; it needs macOS 26 on Apple silicon. Also added to the Mac Suite, still $54.99, now with six apps. Tapefolio.

Update

ModernTex 1.6.0

Sync now has Changes Since Last Sync (Command-Option-D). It builds a PDF of your project with your edits marked, additions underlined in blue and deletions struck through in red, compared with the version the other side had the last time you got or sent changes. It follows \input and \include into every file. The same sheet can mark what your co-author or your other Mac changed in the last Get Changes. It uses latexdiff, which ModernTex can install for you with TinyTeX. Only the text of .tex files is compared; changes to figures and .bib files are not marked. The PDF is built in a temporary folder and is not added to your project.

October 9, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.5.0

Projects stored in iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive now build. A project under iCloud Drive failed with "I can't find file", because the engine was handed a folder path TeX could not read; it now gets only the file's name. Manuscript Checks flags a "Figure" reference that points at a table, and an undefined reference or citation names the closest label or key. The status bar shows "Checks: clear" or "Checks: 3 to fix". After a successful build ModernTex saves an automatic checkpoint in the Revisions tab, at most every 10 minutes, keeping the newest 20; Settings turns it off. When a build fails, the preview says it is showing your last good PDF.

Update

Vitae 1.1.2

Ideas now have a tile on the Dashboard, and ideas untouched for 30 days show under Needs Attention. Projects still marked Idea can be brought into the Ideas screen from the More menu, moved or copied. An idea can be listed on your CV under Work in Progress, which is off unless you turn it on, and can be made into a Shareables card. The Map can suggest links between ideas that share topics or key words, and each idea lists the projects, publications, reading and talks that match it; matching uses words and topics only, on this Mac, and nothing is linked until you choose. Ideas from my record lists topics on several of your projects with no idea yet, and with Apple Intelligence on macOS 26 can propose new ideas from the titles in your record. Suggestions can be generic, so each one waits for you to add or skip it.

October 9, 2026
Update

Vitae 1.1.1

Search Everything (Command-K) now finds research ideas: it searches an idea's title, question, why it matters, first step, notes, topics and the people on it, and opens the Ideas screen with the one you chose. Ideas also appear in Spotlight on this Mac, with their stage and people; turn that off in Settings, Import and Export. Before you have captured any ideas, each of the four views now says what it will show.

October 9, 2026
Update

Vitae 1.1.0

A new Ideas screen for research ideas that are not projects yet. Capture a line, then sort ideas on a board by stage, group them by type, author or topic, plot them by impact against feasibility, or place them on a map and link related ideas. Each idea holds a question, why it matters, a first step, ratings, the people involved, topics and reading. Make one a project and it starts in Drafting with the authors in order, you first.

October 9, 2026
Update

Vitae 1.0.4

A new optional setting, Settings, Backups, lets scripts and other tools send Vitae commands: record a decision on a submission, change a project's stage, or add a submission. It is off by default, takes a snapshot before every change, and never deletes anything.

October 8, 2026
Update

Keyfeel 1.4.0

You can now choose where the sounds play. A new setting keeps them on the MacBook's own speakers and moves them to AirPods, or to any device you tick, only when the Mac sends its sound there, so casting to a TV leaves your clicks on the laptop without the delay a cast adds. Find it in Settings, Input, Output, or in the menu under Play sounds on. The default is unchanged: sounds follow whatever the Mac is using.

October 8, 2026
Update

Keyfeel 1.3.1

Sound now comes back by itself after sleep, a locked screen, a switch of user, or a change of output device. Keyfeel checks its audio and its keyboard listener after each of these, and tries again for several seconds if the output is not ready. Shortcut and gesture sounds also return after an output change; before, they stayed silent until a setting was changed. If macOS turns off Input Monitoring while Keyfeel is running, Keyfeel now shows the permission window and starts a new listener when you turn it back on. Keyfeel also no longer starts a new rebuild of its audio for every key you press while the output is missing.

October 8, 2026
Update

Legroom 1.2.0

New: the Uninstaller. Choose Uninstaller in the menu bar dropdown, pick an app, and Legroom lists the files it keeps in your Library folder, with sizes. Files named exactly for the app start ticked, and nothing moves until you confirm a sheet that measures each item again. Everything goes to the Trash; nothing is deleted. A second tab lists support files left by apps that are already gone. Like cleaning, the Uninstaller works during the trial and needs a license key after it. Find Files now says why nothing can move after you choose which duplicate to keep, and its Move button shows how many files it will move. Legroom.

October 7, 2026
Update

Keyfeel 1.3.0

Trackpad gestures can now have their own sound, the way shortcuts do: Mission Control, Application windows, Show Desktop and switching desktops. Mission Control has a sound by default, and each can be changed or loaded from your own file in Settings, Shortcuts. Switching desktops works straight away; the other three need the Accessibility permission. Headphones and speakers now keep separate volumes, and Keyfeel switches between them when the output changes. Version 1.2.1 fixed silence after switching the output, for example from headphones back to the speakers.

October 7, 2026
Update

Keyfeel 1.2.0

Scroll sounds now stop when a page reaches its end instead of playing while it bounces. This needs the optional Accessibility permission, which lets Keyfeel read how far the page under the pointer is scrolled; Settings, Input shows the status and a button to allow it. The menu bar menu also has a Volume slider now, so you can change the level without opening Settings.

October 7, 2026
Update

Keyfeel 1.1.1

Keyfeel now plays through headphones, wired and Bluetooth, and a new Play through headphones switch in the menu and Settings turns that off. The microphone and camera checks now apply to speakers only, because a call cannot hear a Mac's clicks through headphones and an AirPods microphone can read as in use when it is not. The sound list in Settings also scrolls all the way down.

October 7, 2026
Update

Vitae 1.0.3

Vitae Plus is now $2.99 a month or $23.99 a year. The prices shown in Settings, the Plus screen and the help match the website.

October 7, 2026
Update

Outbound Veil 1.1.0

Outbound Veil is now one download. It runs free for 7 days from the first time you open it, then asks for a license key: choose Enter license key in the menu bar menu or in Settings, General, and paste the key from your receipt email. It unlocks at once, with no restart and no second download. If you already bought Outbound Veil, installing 1.1.0 over your copy keeps it unlocked and never asks for a key. A trial copy keeps its original start date. Every copy now checks for updates. Fixed: after a trial ended, changing the send-hold setting for an app could switch the send-key watcher back on. The price is now $29.99, once.

October 7, 2026
Update

Legroom 1.1.0

Legroom is now one download. It runs free for 7 days from the first time you open it, then asks for a license key: choose Enter license key in the menu bar dropdown or in Settings, General, and paste the key from your receipt email. Everything unlocks at once, with no restart and no second download. After the trial, the free-space readout and the low-space alerts keep working. If you already bought Legroom, installing 1.1.0 over your copy keeps it unlocked and never asks for a key. A trial copy keeps its original start date. Every copy now checks for updates. The price is now $9.99, once.

October 7, 2026
Update

Keyfeel 1.1

Keyfeel is now one app, like ModernTex. It runs free for 7 days, and the license key you get by email and on the download page after paying keeps it unlocked: choose Enter License Key in the menu. There is no separate trial download. It also uses about 40 percent less processor time while you type and scroll quickly.

October 7, 2026
Launch

Keyfeel 1.0

A Mac menu-bar app that plays recorded keyboard-switch sounds when you press a key, with mouse-click sounds, scroll ticks that keep going through a trackpad glide, and optional trackpad haptics. It has recorded Fun and Calm sound sets, imports Mechvibes sound packs, plays its own sound for shortcuts such as copy and paste, and goes quiet during calls and in the apps you choose. Free for 7 days, then $9.99 once. Also added to the Mac Suite, now $54 with five apps.

October 7, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.4.0

One download now. Every copy of ModernTex is free for 7 days from the first time you open it, and after that it needs a license key; there is no separate trial version any more. Copies you already bought keep working with no key, and a trial copy keeps its start date. Choose Enter license key in the banner, on the trial-ended screen or in Settings, and paste the key from your purchase email. It is checked on your Mac, unlocks at once and needs no restart.

October 7, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.3.6

The free trial banner and the trial-ended screen now say ModernTex is $19.99, once, with all updates included. Some earlier trial builds still showed the old price. On days 5 and 6 of the trial, one dismissible note states the price and the 14-day refund; once dismissed it does not return, and it never appears in a purchased copy.

October 7, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.3.5

Choosing the plain Light or Dark editor theme now sets the whole window to match, and setting the window to Light or Dark moves those two themes with it. Parchment and the other themes leave the window alone. Toolbar and panel icons show a small tooltip bubble under the icon, drawn by the app, because the system tooltip did not appear for some people. The Reading width setting now also sets the text column width in the editor-only layout.

October 6, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.3.4

Two fixes to 1.3.3. Command-clicking text in the PDF scrolls the editor to the matching source again; in 1.3.3 the cursor moved but the editor stayed where it was. The toolbar now fits narrow windows: when there is not room for every label, the text links shrink to icons instead of wrapping into one-letter columns.

October 6, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.3.3

Fixes and additions from a tester's notes. Double-clicking text in the editor now lands the matching PDF text near the middle of the view, and Command-clicking the PDF puts the cursor in the editor at that word. The left sidebar can be hidden, right-hand panel buttons close their panel when clicked again, and there is a PDF-only layout. Toolbar icons have tooltips, Zen mode has a reading-width setting and Esc leaves it, and the editor has plain Light and Dark themes with adjustable background and cursor colors. The free trial download now includes Settings.

October 5, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.3.2

A maintenance release. It changes the key that verifies future updates. Nothing else in the app is different from 1.3.1.

October 5, 2026
Update

Outbound Veil 1.0.2

A maintenance release. It changes the key that verifies future updates. Nothing else in the app is different from 1.0.1.

October 5, 2026
Update

Vitae 1.0.2

A maintenance release. It changes the key that verifies future updates. Nothing else in the app is different from 1.0.1, which showed a Mac Suite license as Lifetime (Mac Suite) in Vitae Plus settings, with no price, renewal date or subscription buttons.

October 5, 2026
Update

Legroom 1.0.1

A maintenance release. It changes the key that verifies future updates. Nothing else in the app is different from 1.0.

October 5, 2026
Launch

Legroom 1.0

A Mac menu-bar app that shows your free disk space, warns you before the disk fills, and cleans the folders and developer caches you choose, after you approve a preview of what would be removed. It also shows what grew over 1, 7 and 30 days, suggests rules weekly or monthly, maps where the space went, and finds large, old and duplicate files. $9 once after a free 7-day trial; also in the Mac Suite, which is now $49 and includes Legroom. Legroom.

October 4, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.3.1: one Settings window, and control over how the editor looks

Settings now open with ⌘, like any Mac app, and hold everything in one window: General, Editor, Colors, Writing Checks, AI & Account and Compile. Editor typography: pick any monospaced font installed on your Mac, set the size, and adjust line spacing from 1.0 to 2.0, with a live preview. Syntax colors: recolor commands, structure, math, citations, comments and the rest, saved separately for each editor theme, with a one-click reset. Zen mode (⌃⇧F) hides everything but the text, line numbers included; a setting keeps them if you prefer. Error Reference: a built-in guide to common LaTeX errors with plain-language fixes, linked from the Diagnostics panel. Edit PDF text in place is available as an opt-in beta, from the pencil in the PDF toolbar: double-click text in the preview and the change is written back to your source. The editor can also be switched between light and dark independently of the rest of the app. Delivered through the app's own update check.

October 4, 2026
Update

Outbound Veil 1.0.1

Uses less power when nothing is being checked: the timers that follow the focused field and the highlights now slow down or stop when there is nothing to follow. The welcome guide no longer says send hold works in Mail, because Mail's compose window cannot be read; the setup now offers Messages and Slack. A new first-ten-minutes guide covers install, the macOS Accessibility permission and a first redaction.

October 4, 2026
Launch

Outbound Veil 1.0

A Mac menu-bar app that checks the text field you are typing in for names, numbers and addresses before you send it, highlights what it finds, and redacts it in one click. The checking runs on your Mac. $29 once after a free 7-day trial; also in the Mac Suite. Outbound Veil.

Update

Vitae 1.0

Recently Deleted keeps anything you delete for 30 days, with a one-click Put Back. RIS export for Interfolio, Watermark Faculty Success and other reference managers. NSF and NIH award auto-fill on a grant from just its award number. Publish or Perish import brings in Google Scholar citation counts and computes h-index, g-index and more on the Impact screen. Shareables, the social-media cards Vitae makes from your milestones, gain six new styles (Aurora, Ember, Halftone, Geometric, Duotone, Confetti) alongside the originals. Vitae Help is a searchable help window built into the app. Also new: Deadlines and Pipeline widgets, Quick Look for manuscript files, a Dock badge for overdue deadlines, and an accessibility pass throughout. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 25, 2026
Update

Vitae 0.4.1

Opening a submission no longer crashes Vitae when a record in the library is missing a required field (for example one added by an outside tool); Vitae fills such gaps with the usual defaults when it opens the library. The Dashboard's publication projection now counts acceptance estimates on papers in revision (major or minor revision, conditional accept, reject and resubmit) instead of listing them as needing an estimate. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 23, 2026
Update

Vitae 0.4: start from your CV

CV import now reads papers, grants, degrees, positions, honors, talks, teaching, service and mentoring from Word, PDF and other CV files, in the common citation styles, and shows you everything before it is saved; anything already in your library is flagged and left out. CV formats: seven ready-made formats (full academic CV, short, one page, industry résumé, APA, IEEE, teaching-focused) plus your own, and Export Several Formats writes them all at once. Send to Zotero adds your publications to your Zotero library after showing every change, and never removes anything. Feedback: Help > Send Feedback or the envelope in the sidebar opens an email to the developer. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 23, 2026
Update

Vitae 0.3.1: an acceptance-rate directory

Acceptance Rates (Venues toolbar): search about 13,700 venue acceptance rates by name or abbreviation. Record a rate you found, with its year, counts and source, and Vitae keeps it in your library and uses it ahead of the list wherever it suggests an acceptance probability. Check for Newer Rates updates the list, only when you ask. Verified journal senders: an email counts as coming from a journal's editorial system only when your mail provider confirmed its signature. Also fixes for mail servers, backups and merging, VoiceOver labels on every icon-only button, and plainer wording. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 23, 2026
Update

Vitae 0.3: the Inbox reads your mail

Mail. Connect iCloud, Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Fastmail or a university mailbox in Settings > Email & AI. Vitae checks for new mail when it opens and every 15 minutes, keeps only decision letters, deadlines, review invitations and submission receipts, and puts each one in the Inbox for review. Applying a decision saves the letter with that review round. Messages stay unread, and app passwords stay in the Mac's Keychain. Backups and undo. A snapshot of the library every day Vitae opens and before any bulk change, restorable from Settings > Backups, and Edit > Undo for every change, including deletes. Also new: target venues and checklists per submission, manuscript versions, a revision workspace for reviewer comments, Library Health with one-click lookup of every missing DOI, Shareables for LinkedIn, Instagram and X, and in-app updates from this version on. Vitae Plus is an optional subscription, $2.99 a month or $23.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, for reports, Word templates and a few extras. Everything else stays free. Version 0.1 cannot update itself, so download 0.3 once from the Vitae page.

September 13, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.3.0: a real Table Editor

Table Editor (Compile menu, the toolbar's Table Editor button, or ⌘⇧T): paste a range copied from Excel or Google Sheets and it lands in the right cells, growing the table only if the pasted data is bigger than what's there — never smaller. Drag a column's edge to resize it; press Return in a cell for a real line break, which turns that column into a wrapping paragraph column automatically. Excel-native keys throughout: Return confirms a cell and moves down a row, ⌥Return is Excel's own line-break chord, arrow keys move between rows, and a smart ⌘V detects a real pasted range versus a single value. Set a table-wide font size and family for a dense results table. Pick a table already in your document from the Tables menu and edit it in place, or start from a preset. Read more about it, and the TikZ Designer from the last release, on the blog. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 12, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.2.0: a visual TikZ workflow

TikZ Designer (Compile menu, the toolbar's TikZ Figure Editor button, or ⌘⌥⇧K): build a diagram by dragging boxes and arrows instead of writing TikZ by hand — real colors, resizable boxes, drag-to-connect with a live preview line, double-click to rename, undo, duplicate, a dashed Note box for callouts, and presets to start from (flowchart, pipeline, state machine, tree). Pick a figure already in your document from the Figures menu and edit it directly, or insert a new one — either way it drops in plain, readable TikZ. New and still evolving, so double-check the generated code. TikZ Preview (⌘⌥K) renders just the tikzpicture under your cursor on its own, with instant warnings for a missing semicolon or an unclosed brace before you run a full compile. Also in this release: a proper in-app User Guide, and the license keys described below. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 12, 2026
Update

ModernTex: license keys

Every ModernTex purchase now comes with a permanent license key, emailed with your receipt — paste it into "Have a license key?" if you ever reinstall or move to a new Mac, no account needed. Verified entirely offline, on-device. Everyone who bought ModernTex before this shipped has already been emailed theirs.

September 12, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.1.0

Formatting shortcuts (⌘B/⌘I/⌘U/⌘⇧C, compile moved to ⌘↵); sync between your Macs or with a co-author in two words, Get Changes and Send Changes; Compile Only This Chapter and Draft Mode for large documents; references resolve in Live and Fast modes too; Import Reviewed Word File brings a supervisor's tracked changes and comments into the source; math typing shortcuts (1/x, dint, ->, x1) with tab-stop snippets; Fix with AI proposes a repair for a build error (Apple Intelligence on your Mac, or your own Claude/OpenAI account) and shows it as a diff before applying; PDF and source selection follow each other both ways; and XeLaTeX/LuaLaTeX are now auto-detected from a project's own % !TEX program = … line, the same directive TeXShop, TeXstudio, and VS Code's LaTeX Workshop read — no more silent pdflatex on a fontspec/polyglossia document. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 11, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.0.2: a free 7-day trial

ModernTex can now be tried before it is bought. The trial is the complete app for seven days from first launch, with no account and nothing to enter; when it ends, the window shows a notice and a Buy button, and your .tex files are untouched. Download the trial. Buying is still $10 once, updates included, and delivers a separate build with no trial. Existing owners receive 1.0.2 through the app's own update check.

September 5, 2026
Update

ModernTex 1.0.1

A build that fails in biber or bibtex now shows the PDF it produced and says which step failed, pointing at the offending .bib line. Syntax highlighting gains distinct colours for sectioning, document structure, and text formatting, and recognises biblatex citation commands. Delivered through the app's own update check.

September 4, 2026
Launch

ModernTex 1.0.0

The macOS LaTeX editor for researchers is available for $10, updates included. Multi-file manuscript navigation, synchronized PDF preview, BibTeX completion, plain-language compile diagnostics, anonymized submission export, and reference checks. Requires macOS 14 and a TeX distribution. The app updates itself. Get ModernTex.
