Word Counter & Document Insights

Paste text or upload a document — PDF, Word, LaTeX, Markdown, EPUB, RTF, ODT, HTML — for detailed counts, per-section word splits, readability scores, and writing diagnostics. Basic counts update as you type; click Analyse for the full report.

Pasted text never leaves your browser. Uploaded files are converted to text in an ephemeral container that's discarded immediately — then all statistics are computed locally in your browser. Nothing is stored.

How to get document statistics

  1. Paste text for live counts, or switch to Upload a file and drop a PDF, Word, LaTeX, Markdown, EPUB, RTF, ODT, or HTML document.
  2. Basic counts (words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, reading time) update instantly as you type.
  3. Click Analyse for the full report: readability scores, vocabulary diversity, sentence-length distribution, style flags, citation density, and an AI-writing-pattern audit.
  4. For academic papers, use the section toggles to count with or without references, appendix, or abstract.
  5. Click Download CSV to export every statistic.

About this tool

A complete document-statistics dashboard for writers and researchers. Upload almost any format and get counts, per-section splits, readability grades, and writing diagnostics — all computed in your browser.

What file formats can I upload?
PDF, Word (.docx), OpenDocument (.odt), RTF, EPUB, HTML, LaTeX (.tex), Markdown (.md), and plain text. Uploads up to 20 MB are converted to text on our server (which stores nothing), then all statistics are computed in your browser.
Can it count words without the references or appendix?
Yes. For academic papers, the tool splits your document into sections and lets you toggle which sections to include — so you can get "main text without references and appendix" in one click.
What readability scores does it compute?
Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid Grade, Gunning Fog, SMOG, Coleman-Liau, and the Automated Readability Index, plus average words-per-sentence and syllables-per-word.
Does the AI-writing audit detect AI-generated text?
No, and we're deliberate about this. It flags phrases and patterns that appear often in AI-generated prose and shows you where they occur — it never outputs a probability or verdict. AI-detection tools are unreliable and disproportionately false-flag non-native English writers, so we don't claim to detect AI authorship. Treat the audit as a writing-style mirror, not evidence.
Is my text stored?
Pasted text never leaves your browser. Uploaded files are converted to text in an ephemeral container that's discarded immediately — nothing is written to durable storage or logs.
