Steps
- Go to purplelink.llc/tools/equation-renderer/.
- Paste your LaTeX math expression into the text area. Enter only the math, without surrounding
$signs or\[delimiters. For example, paste\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}, not$\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}$.

- Select a rendering mode. Display renders the equation centered on its own line with larger symbols, suited for slides, posters, and standalone figures. Inline renders it compactly, as it would appear inside a sentence.
- Select a resolution. 300 DPI works for most documents and presentation slides. Use 600 DPI for large-format prints or posters.
- Click Render equation. The PNG appears below the controls within a few seconds.

What's happening under the hood
The renderer places your expression inside a standalone LaTeX document with a 6-point border, then compiles it with pdfLaTeX. The packages amsmath, amssymb, and amsfonts are loaded automatically, covering the full range of AMS math notation. The output PDF is cropped tightly around the equation and converted to PNG at your selected DPI using Poppler. The result has a white background, which works in most documents and slides. If your slide or poster uses a dark background, remove the white in an image editor. Preview on macOS handles this in a few clicks. The expression is compiled in a temporary container and discarded immediately; nothing is stored.
Q&A
What if the equation produces a compile error?
Check for mismatched braces or commands outside the three loaded packages. The error output includes a snippet from the LaTeX compile log; look for the line beginning with ! to identify the problem.
Do I need to include \usepackage{amsmath} in my expression?
No. The renderer loads amsmath, amssymb, and amsfonts automatically. Paste only the math expression itself, without \usepackage, preamble, or delimiters.
Display mode vs inline mode: when does it matter?
Use Display for presentations and posters: the symbols are larger and the equation stands clearly on its own. Use Inline only when the equation needs to blend into a line of running text.
