Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon

Icebergs calve off Breiðamerkurjökull and drift across the lagoon toward the sea, where the tide pushes them back onto the black sand of Diamond Beach. The ice is blue where it is dense and streaked black with ash.

The lagoon only formed in the 1930s as the glacier retreated; it is now Iceland's deepest lake.
