Our central finding is that a single night of restricted sleep was associated with a measurable drop in how many seeded defects experienced developers caught during code review.

In a within-subjects experiment, 42 professional developers reviewed matched pull requests once after a normal night of sleep and once after a night restricted to four hours, in counterbalanced order. Each change contained seeded defects of known type. Mean detection fell from 61% to 48% under restriction, with the largest drop for logic errors, while the number of false-positive comments did not change. The sample came from a single organization, and the effect may differ for chronic sleep loss; we discuss both limitations.

Why no PDF upload?

Cover letters are 95% built from the abstract and the target journal's scope. Skipping the full manuscript means we send much less of your unpublished work to a third-party AI service. However, the letter cites the manuscript only at the level of detail your abstract supports.

Can you target a specific reviewer or editor?

You can paste an "author note" with that context when you compose. The model adds it to the letter if it fits.

What model produces the letter?

An Anthropic Claude model at a low temperature, the same model and settings as Paper Review.

What does Purplelink retain?

Only briefly. The letter is deleted from our servers 30 minutes after you first open it, or after 24 hours if you never do. Your abstract and journal name are sent to Anthropic's Claude API, which retains inputs for 30 days for abuse monitoring, never for training.
