ICIS reference format
The ICIS 2026 template asks for references in APA 7th edition, listed alphabetically, with DOIs. Papers use the ICIS Word template, and the page limit counts the reference list.
Checked against the sources linked at the end of this page.
What ICIS expects
- Reference style: APA 7th edition, listed alphabetically by author. In-text citations give last name and year, e.g. (DeGross, 1977) or DeGross (1977).
- Completeness: The template asks for complete references, including DOIs.
- Template: The ICIS 2026 paper submission template is a Word file (.docx). The templates page lists no LaTeX version.
- Length: Completed research papers: 16 single-spaced pages, all inclusive. Short papers: 8 pages. The limit covers title, text, tables, figures, appendices and references.
- Review: Blind review. Author names must not appear in the body of the paper or the abstract.
Setting up the bibliography
ICIS submissions are written in the Word template, so there is no \bibliographystyle line. Keep the .bib file as your source of record and insert the list in APA 7 from your reference manager.
The template warns that different EndNote versions change the styles and create inconsistencies, so read the finished list once against APA 7.
Three references in APA 7
ICIS proceedings papers carry no DOI, so these are three journal articles an ICIS paper commonly cites, formatted by hand in APA 7. Titles, authors, volumes and pages were checked against Crossref on 2026-10-01.
LaTeX template
ICIS publishes Word templates only: the paper submission template, a revision template and a TREO talk template, all on the ICIS 2026 templates page. There is no official LaTeX template.
Common mistakes
- Running out of pages because of the reference list. References count toward the 16 pages, and a paper over the limit is rejected without review.
- Leaving out DOIs. The template's reference section asks for them explicitly.
- Numbering the references. The list is alphabetical and unnumbered, with author-year citations in the text.
- Self-citations that identify you. The instructions say to remove references to your own published or unpublished work if they would identify an author.
Check your .bib file
- BibTeX Validator (free) checks a .bib file for syntax errors and missing required fields.
- Citation Generator (free) builds IEEE, APA, MLA and Chicago citations from entry fields, in your browser.
- Reference Converter (free) converts between BibTeX, RIS and EndNote. The same converter is below.
Converted output
Your references never leave your browser. There is no upload and nothing is stored.
