JMIS reference format
JMIS uses a numbered reference list arranged alphabetically by first author, cited in the text as numbers in square brackets such as [9]. Authors submit in Word or PDF, and the journal names no BibTeX style.
Checked against the sources linked at the end of this page.
What JMIS expects
- Reference style: Numbered list, arranged alphabetically by the first author or editor. In-text citations are numbers in square brackets, e.g. [9].
- Manuscript format: Word or PDF for review. The instructions offer Word templates and name no LaTeX class or .bst file.
- Length: The complete manuscript should generally not pass 40 pages, in 12-point type, double-spaced. The abstract is up to 150 words.
- Review: The submission guidelines ask for a fully anonymized file for double-blind review. Self-references may stay in the reference list.
Setting up the bibliography
JMIS publishes no BibTeX style, so there is no \bibliographystyle line to copy. Keep the .bib file as your source of record, export the list, and apply the JMIS pattern by hand or in your reference manager:
Journal article: authors, title, journal in italics, volume, issue, date in parentheses, inclusive pages. Last names come first. Three or more authors are separated by semicolons. The title has capitals only on the first word and proper names.

Formatted by hand from the pattern in the JMIS instructions. The DOI links are added here for checking; the JMIS pattern itself does not include them. Titles, authors, volumes and pages were checked against Crossref on 2026-10-01.
LaTeX template
JMIS provides Word templates through the Taylor & Francis formatting page linked from its instructions. It does not publish a LaTeX template, so this page has no template to point to.
Common mistakes
- Numbering references in citation order. The list is alphabetical first and numbered second, so [1] is the first author in the alphabet, not the first source you cite.
- Separating three or more authors with commas. The instructions call for semicolons, with “and” before the last author.
- Title-casing article titles. Only the first word and proper names take capitals. Book titles are the exception: all principal words are capitalized.
- Leaving out page numbers for book chapters and conference papers. The instructions say they are required.
Check your .bib file
- BibTeX Validator (free) checks a .bib file for syntax errors and missing required fields.
- Citation Generator (free) builds IEEE, APA, MLA and Chicago citations from entry fields, in your browser.
- Reference Converter (free) converts between BibTeX, RIS and EndNote. The same converter is below.
Converted output
Your references never leave your browser. There is no upload and nothing is stored.

No. The instructions for authors accept Word or PDF, offer Word templates, and do not name a LaTeX class or a BibTeX style.
How long can a JMIS manuscript be?
The instructions say the complete manuscript should generally not pass 40 pages in 12-point, double-spaced type, with an abstract of up to 150 words.
Where this comes from
Every rule on this page was read from these pages on 2026-10-01. Venues change their instructions between cycles, so read the current call before you submit.
The instructions page separates three or more authors with semicolons in its current example; the 2018 PDF guide uses commas. This page follows the instructions page.
